Creative Writing in English

Creative Writing in English

Creative writing is a great way for people to express their thoughts, ideas and beliefs in a written way. Creative writing is different that other forms of writing because the author has freedom to come up with the style, form and content of the piece. Most people prefer to write in a creative writing style because they are not restrictions. Creative writing can include story telling, poetry, screenwriting, and more. If you are thinking about accomplishing creative writing in English, you may be a little unsure of where to begin. The good news is there are no limitations!

While creative writing can be a fun experience, it can be hard to know where to begin. You may need some creative writing prompts to help get your imagination going. A creative writing prompt consists of ideas that can help writers begin their writing process. Once the writing process begins, writers are often inspired to come up with the material needed to make the piece truly unique. Below are some ideas to help get you started with your ESL Creative Writing ventures!

  • Tell a story about a favorite childhood memory. This can be a great way to remember events and people from your past. Why is this memory so important to you? What did you learn from this experience? This is a great way to share a creative story with your peers.
  • Write about your first name. Were you named after someone? Do you like it? What is the meaning behind it?
  • What is something that you want to do before you die? Why do you want to do this? This can be a great way to think about your life and the things that you want to accomplish.
  • Write about what makes you, you! Tell your peers about yourself. What is your favorite color? What makes you happy? What makes you sad? This is a great way to express your emotions and to think about who you really are.
  • What would you do if you won the lottery? Would you donate to charity? Would you save it? Maybe you would help your family. This is fun way to think about all the things that you would do if you had all the money in the world!

These are just a few examples of creative writing prompts. The truth us, creative writing has no limits! You can write about whatever you are thinking or feeling about. If you are looking for a way to express your unique thoughts, creative writing can be a great outlet. Sit down and think of some ideas that you would like to write about. Chances are you have a lot of great stories to tell!
