Hot seat

The Hot seat is another guessing game that can be used with sentences, words or phrases. The procedure for this group activity is as follows; in groups of 4 to 6 students, 1 student is in the 'hot seat.' This student can not see the white board where the teacher will write the sentence. The other members of the group have to explain the sentence (without using the words in the sentence) in a 'charades' type of manner. When the student can say the whole sentence the group raises their hands and the teacher checks to see if the student has got the sentence correct. This is a fun competition with a large group of students. I found that it works best with 5 or 6 groups all trying to get it done first. You can award points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, etc.
